From the 10,000+ recordings in the Territorial Airwaves archives,
we always bring you music from various decades of Hawaiian music history!

In this show, we'll remember that Edwin B. Chillingworth, Jr., "Sonny" Chillingworth, was born on July 14, 1932 in Honolulu, and we lost him, at age 62, on August 24, 1994.

Sonny was a master exponent of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar, in the "Sonny Style", influenced by Mexican, Portuguese, Spanish, Puerto Rican, and Country & Western music styles.

Join us now for "Sonny Style", as we share some of our favorite Sonny Chillingworth music!

Harry B. Soria, Jr. is the host of "Territorial Airwaves", now in it's 33rd year. Every Friday & Sunday, he takes a beguiling musical stroll back to the days of the Territory of Hawaii, playing historical 78, 33 1/3, and 45 RPM recordings and sharing anecdotes and trivia about Hawaii's past.

Bill Kaiwa Farewell
Air Date: 2/10/12 - LISTEN ON-DEMAND HERE

In this show, we'll remember that Bill Kaho'akupa'a Kaiwa Ahnee was born on February 25, 1934 in Honolulu, and we lost him, at the age of 76, on November 29, 2011. Bill was a pioneer in proper pronunciation of Hawaiian lyrics in the early 1960s, and dedicated his life to researching and performing nearly lost treasured Hawaiian music compositions. From a guest on the Alice Fredlund show at the Halekulani Hotel, he eventually starred in Waikiki, Tokyo, and Las Vegas. Fortunately for us, Bill made several fine recordings. Join us now for our fond "Bill Kaiwa Farewell", as we share some of our favorite Bill Kaiwa music!

Wonderous Waikiki Wahine!
Air Date: 2/3/12 - LISTEN ON-DEMAND HERE

In this show, we'll remember that two young wahine became featured entertainers in Waikiki very early in their lives. Mignon Violanthy K. Fo, aka: Mikilani Fo, became a star of a Waikiki nightclub floor show in her early 20s before traveling to New York City in 1950. Ilima Baker Aylett, aka: Ilima Baker, became a featured singer at the Niumalu Hotel while still a senior at Sacred Hearts Academy, also in the early 1950s. Join us for a "Wonderous Waikiki Wahine", as we share the music of Mikilani Fo & Ilima Baker!
