CHILDREN’S LITERATURE HAWAI‘I presents 19TH BIENNIAL CONFERENCE
“The Places We Come From, Real and Imagined”
June 7, Tenney Theatre & June 8-9, Chaminade University
HONOLULU (May 22, 2018)— For anyone who has ever has set off on an imagined journey sparked by words crafted in the pages of children’s literature, you are invited to Tenney Theatre and Chaminade University June 7-9 for Children’s Literature Hawaii’s Nineteenth Biennial Conference, “The Places We Come From, Real and Imagined.” This FREE event is not your average academic conference; parents, educators, librarians, artists and kids will all find a session designed especially for their interests. Sessions are centered around three “strands” of interest: Using Literature, Creating Literature, and Interpreting Literature. The Nineteenth Biennial Conference features award-winning author Lee Cataluna and distinguished illustrator Patrick Ching.

The conference kicks off at Tenney Theatre Thursday June 7th at 7 p.m., celebrating children’s literature with festivities for the whole family, including a performance by Honolulu Theatre for Youth featuring the work of Lee Cataluna, Patrick Ching, and Lehua Parker. Admission to the Thursday evening celebration at Tenney Theatre is FREE; please RSVP to reserve your seat by visiting https://clh2018.eventbrite.com. Other free family events will be taking place on Saturday, June 9, at Chaminade University and include “Story Magic” crafts and activities, a performance by Todd Farley, and the closing ceremony. Also available at the conference are free workshops designed specifically for teens: one for teen writers and one for teen artists.. More than 20 FREE sessions are available for you to choose from. There are 4 special professional sessions for a fee of $25 ($20 for CLH members).
Since 1982, internationally recognized authors and illustrators have inspired and educated participants at the conference, which is the longest running event in Hawai‘i exclusively devoted to literature for children. For a complete program listing please visit www.childrensliteraturehi.org.
