Na Leo Pilimehana, the Kamehameha School trio turned Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winners are back home after spending time in Japan. Japan has become a hotbed for Hawaii entertainers; with a large population base that has a special place in their hearts for Hawaii and a knowledge of hula since the 1950ʻs; lots of our Hawaii entetainers return quite often as either guests of Kumu Hula who have many a halau in the Land of the Rising Sun; or they book their own tours and tour quite extensively.
Angela, Nalani and Lehua headlined 8 shows at world famous Billboard Live Venues with 4 shows in Tokyo & Osaka each. The first show in Tokyo was filmed and broadcast LIVE across Japan as it happened, uncut and in it's entirety on FUJI TV Cable. The show has already been rebroadcast and will be rebroadcast several more times over the month of September. Fuji Television says this broadcast has already become popular from Sapporo in the North to Okinawa in the South, both places
Na Leo has played in the past.
This is the second year in a row Na Leo has had their live show broadcast nationwide on television in Japan. Last year's tour was taped and broadcast several times on the most popular Japanese Entertainment channel WOWOW. Na Leo is one of the few if not the only Hawaiian group to ever have two years of back to back Nationwide television broadcasts like this.
For the past five years Na Leo has headlined numerous sold out shows in both Billboard Live Venues in Tokyo and Osaka. Kauai resident Todd Rundgren played the day before Na Leo and Chaka Khan played the day after.
